Actress Angelina Jolie made waves after attending the 2015 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and spreading a message of hope and encouragement on stage as she accepted an award.
This inspiring act was after announcing that she underwent a second surgery which removed her ovaries and fallopian tubes to reduce her risk of getting cancer. Together with the "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" actress at the event were her kids, Shiloh and Zahara, as reported in CNN.com.
Brad Pitt's long-time partner gave her two children a hug before accepting her award on stage for "The Favorite Villain" category. Jolie won the award for her portrayal of Disney villain Maleficent in the film of the same name.
When Jolie got to the stage to accept her award, she sent out a message to kids in the crowd:
"When I was little, like Maleficent, I was told that I was different. And I felt out of place -- too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never good at fitting in."
"And, then one day I realized something, something that I hope you all realize: Different is good."
The audience was impressed with the humanitarian ambassador's views that Jolie got loud screams from the crowd. As a final note, the actress had this to say about the cliche of fitting in:
"And, as your villain, I would also say cause a little trouble -- it's good for you."
As reported in The New York Daily News, the actress went on to further say:
"Don't fit in. Don't sit still. Don't ever try to be less than what you are."
"And whenever someone tells you that you are different, smile and hold your head up high and be proud."
Jolie has long received distinct receptions for her extraordinary lifestyles and insights. From adoption in developing countries and being transparent about her health to the public, the actress has gotten the attention of the media, time and again.
In an interview with People magazine in 2014, Jolie openly said she greatly values good family relationships. She said about her big family, "We've been through so much. We've gotten a lot closer, which I think naturally happens with raising a family together. You have history... You have this person who really knows you, and you know them so well. You're not lovers or boyfriend and girlfriend as much as you are a family."
Mrs. Brad Pitt was also nominated in the Nickelodeon Kids' Favorite Actress award category at the ceremony's 28th annual event, as well. However, Emma Stone was given the award for her portrayal in "The Amazing Spiderman 2."
