"Supergirl" is going big for Season 2 and viewers have a lot to look forward to when the series returns in October on The CW. First, Superman will appear in the series for the first time, and The CW has unveiled his first look. Second, the show is set to trigger a series of crossover episodes with the rest of The CW's other DC Comics series - "Arrow," "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow."
'Supergirl Season 2: Check Out Superman!
Last season, Supergirl kept in touch with her more famous cousin via online chats and text messages. But in "Supergirl" Season 2, Superman will finally have a face in Tyler Hoechlin. Superman's first look on "Supergirl" Season 2 was unveiled on the DC Twitter account. It showed the cousins donning their matching red, white and blue costumes.
Viewers have some reservations about having Superman in "Supergirl" Season 2, though, even if his appearance will only take two episodes. However, producer Sarah Schechter assures fans that Superman will not be overshadowing his younger cousin. "For us it was really interesting to get deeper into Kara's family, and that includes Clark," she said via Empire Online.
They knew they had Superman right for "Supergirl" Season 2 when Tyler Hoechlin donned the blue suit during the casting stages. "As soon as he put it on, we were slack-jawed and, like, "Oh my God, we're with Superman,'" said Schecheter.
'Supergirl' Season 2' Crossover With 'Arrow,' 'The Flash' And 'Legends Of Tomorow'
The CW has long confirmed it will have its superhero shows doing a crossover for four nights and executive producer for "Legends of Tomorrow," Marc Guggenheim, confirmed how this will take place. The crossover will be triggered and focused on "Supergirl." She will be expected to drop in on "Arrow," "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow" to close in on an "external threat," per Comic Book Resources.
Per Screen Rant, it makes sense to have "Supergirl" begin the crossover since the show is first to air on The CW every week with its Monday night schedule. "The Flash" follows on Tuesdays and "Arrow" airs Wednesdays. The superhero week on the network ends with "Legends of Tomorrow" on Thursdays.
Guggenheim didn't provide any more details about the planned TV event. If The CW does deliver this, the crossover would be a great TV first. Learn more about what's up ahead on "Supergirl" Season 2 in the video below.
