Fans who are still hoping for "True Detective" Season 3 has been given renewed hope after a major HBO executive confirmed that there is still a chance that the show will be back on air. Casey Bloys, who was just announced as the cable network's new programming chief, appears to have retracted his previous statement that it would be unlikely that we will see "True Detective" Season 3 on television anytime soon.
"True Detective" Season 3 could be the show's way to bounce back after a critically-savaged second season that starred Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Colin Farrell, Vulture reported. Someone else might write the script with creator Nic Pizzolatto supervising it.
Just three months ago, in a profile for Boys by the Hollywood Reporter, the new HBO executive was faced with the decision of cancelling its less critically-revered shows. Back then, he was quite adamant that viewers would not see "True Detective" Season 3 and will instead be making a new series for Pizzolatto. But it seems the fact that it is an anthology series, which means, the next season would involve a new story and possibly new cast, might have revived his faith in the project.
The first season of "True Detective" starred Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey and was a critical darling in 2014, earning five Emmy awards. Will "True Detective" Season 3 revive the show's awards fortune? That is entirely up to HBO really.
Considering writing, development and production tasks, the earliest "True Detective" Season 3 will arrive in HBO is middle of 2017. What do you think of the news of HBO possibly greenlighting "True Detective" Season 3? Does it deserve it over other cancelled series like Togetherness? Let us know in the comments.
