A toddler and a Rowlett, Texas police officer have reunited a year after the police officer saved the two-year old girl from choking on a penny. The two of them had a photoshoot recently, the theme of which was a tea party.
Fox News reported that it was July of last year when then 22-month-old Bexley Norwell accidentally swallowed a penny and her lips turned blue. Her mother, Tammy Norvell called 911 for help and Rowlett police officer Patrick Ray came to help Bexley, who had become unresponsive.
Police Officer Saved Toddler's Life In 27 Seconds
"I heard [Ray's] siren and ran out the front door," Norvell said, as per ABC News 10. "He's grabbing her from me and is trying to pry her mouth open with two hands. He did the finger sweep into her esophagus and a penny dropped down into it. That's when we heard the most beautiful sound of her squeaking and coughing and crying," Norvell added.
The Rowlett police officer's body camera showed that he was able to save Bexley in just 27 seconds, according to Norvell. The Norvell and Ray families have reportedly been celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthday parties together since the incident.
The Tea Party A Year Later
During the tea party photoshoot, KTLA reported that Bexley and Ray shared Apple Jacks and Oreos in their reunion a year after as they sat down by a table for two. Photographer Chelle Cates was quoted as saying that she did not give a lot of direction to Ray during the photoshoot.
The City of Rowlett, Texas Government shared a photo of Bexley and Ray's tea party photoshoot, together with a message of gratitude from Bexley's mother. She ended by saying that Ray and many other officers have saved other people's lives and that supporting police officers means supporting safety for America and the future of children.
