Taylor Swift's mother's medical test results taken last Christmas were out on Thursday and they don't bear good news. The results revealed that, Swift's mother, Andrea Finlay had cancer.
Swift took to her Tumblr account to remind fans the importance of urging their parents to get regular medical check-ups. The singer deemed that regular check-ups were keys to detecting serious illnesses early.
As reported in The Washington Post, Swift posted this message on Tumblr:
"She wanted you to know because your parents may be too busy juggling everything they've got going on to go to the doctor, and maybe you reminding them to go get checked for cancer could possibly lead to an early diagnosis and an easier battle... Or peace of mind in knowing that they're healthy and there's nothing to worry about. She wanted you to know why she may not be at as many shows this tour. She's got an important battle to fight."
Swift, then, thanked fans for giving their loving support to her mom and family, by writing, "Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you. I hope and pray that you never get news like this."
Known to have a very close relationship with her fans, Swifties were quick to empathize with her. CNN report announced that #PrayForMamaSwift hashtag has gone viral from the star's Twitter account. The "1989" singer's tweet about her mom's health condition has so far been retweeted over 21,000 times in an hour or so.
In an Entertainment Tonight article, Swift shared that Andrea never felt any symptoms associated with a likely cancer disease. The singer said that her mother undertook the medical screenings at the prodding of her and her brother.
The famous singer wrote on Tumblr that she felt the need to let her fans in on this important incident in the family, saying, "Usually when things happen to me, I process them and then write music about how I feel, and you hear it much later. This is something my family and I thought you should know about now."
Swift has been known to be very close with her family, especially her mother who has been there is most of her concerts, tours, and live performances. In fact, she has also written a song for her in her past album.
Swifties may have heard about the song off the 2008 album, "Fearless," called "Best Day." Swift wrote the song in dedication exclusively for her mom.
The lyrics from the song would melt anybody's heart in an instant, with these words:
"I hear your laugh/ And look up smiling at you," the lyrics read. "I run and run/ Past the pumpkin patch/And the tractor rides/"
