Samsung recently released its Galaxy Note 7, jumping from the Galaxy Note 5 and bypassing the Galaxy Note 6 this year. The Galaxy Note 7 is one of the first smartphones that come with an iris scanning technology for biometric identification, which means that users can unlock their phone in seconds through their eyes.
How does the Galaxy Note 7 compare with Samsung's other recently released smartphone, the Galaxy S7? Reports claimed that the two devices have similarities, though there are notable differences as well.
Let's start with the similarities. The Galaxy Note 7 and the Galaxy S7 have the same glass and aluminum body and premium build and design. The former, however, has better fit and finish than any of the tech giant's smartphones currently out in the market, according to The Guardian.
The Galaxy Note 7 is similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge when it comes to its IP68 rating of its waterproof feature, which allows the devices to be submerged 1.5m underwater for 30 minutes. Other identical features include 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, a microSD slot, a 12-megapixel primary camera, and a 5MP front-facing shooter.
The two devices' display sizes slightly differ. The Galaxy Note 7 has a 5.7-inch curved panel, 2560 x 1440 pixels (518 ppi), and a Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 5, Forbes reported.
The Galaxy S7 is at 5.1 inches, has a 2560 x 1440 pixels (577 ppi) and a Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 4. Take note that the Galaxy Note 7's Gorilla Glass 5 protection is better at withstanding drops than the Gorilla Glass 4.
The Galaxy Note 7 has a larger display than the Galaxy S7. Its width is slimmer as well thanks to its bezel-less finish, though the device is heavier at 169g than the Galaxy S7's 152g. As for the internals, both the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy S7's U.S. version have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM. For the international model, the devices are equipped with the Exynos 8890 and 4GB of RAM.
Though both smartphones come with S Pen support, the Galaxy Note 7's has been expanded thanks to its Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow software. The newer device's S Pen is now waterproof and works even if the screen is wet, and has new features including GIF creation, quick translations, and ability to write on the device's Always-On display.
The Galaxy Note 7's battery capacity is bigger at 3500mAh than the Galaxy S7's 3000mAh. It also has a new Blue Coral with rose gold aluminum finish.
As for the price, the Galaxy Note 7 starts selling at $850. Expect a discount on the Galaxy S7's $750 starting price soon, Forbes noted.
