NBA Rumors are ablaze with reports that Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins are all set to join the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018. There is a two year contract with the Kings that he has to fulfill as of now after which he will be a free agent. This is possible if he decides not to extend his contract.
The NBA rumors started after Cousins took to twitter and said that the LA Lakers was his favorite basketball team when he was still a kid. However, this is not confirmed as of now. Atleast, we cannot say anything until his contract runs out. Sacramento's GM, Vlade Divac, also could not emphasize as of now that Cousins will be staying.
Before the NBA rumors came in, Cousins seemed to be quite contented with the team. However, it should be noted that he did criticize some of Sacramento's recent actions. There were rumors earlier too regarding Cousins that Boston Celtics is willing to trade its choicest picks if Sacramento is willing to give up Cousins to them, ITech Post reported.
DeMarcus Cousins was signed by the Sacramento Kings in 2014. According to his contract, he will play with the team for four years during which he will receive a total compensation of more than $65 million. NBA rumors suggest that the team already has a lot of problems to deal with and they would do anything to do away with the issues that might arise if they lose DeMarcus Cousins, reported Pabaon News.
NBA rumors also observed that the Los Angeles Lakers will not have a good season this time. They are in the process of still reassembling their roster. In such a situation, LA Lakers would be more than happy to have DeMarcus Cousins in their ranks. Though acquiring Cousins is not easy and the team might have to offer more than one player in exchange, it is still worth it.
There is a possibility that Kings might agree to the deal if they are promised Jordan Clarkson, D'Angelo Russel or Brandon Ingram by Lakers. As of now, nothing can be said till DeMarcus Cousins completes his contract with the Kings.
