Showrunner Ed Decter has left the production of "Shadowhunters" season 2, raising questions as to how the departure will affect the fledgling Freeform series. The show, based on a series of paranormal fantasy young adult novels called the "Mortal Instruments" series from Cassandra Clare, debuted earlier this year to middling reviews and decent ratings.
The exit was very abrupt and is said to be over creative differences as to the direction of the show in "Shadowhunters" season 2, Deadline reported. Production for "Shadowhunters" season 2 will still proceed as scheduled and will remain unaffected. In fact, the cast of "Shadowhunters" season 2 just had their first table read for the show just days ago. Freeform is still looking for a new showrunner as the show gears to start filming in the next few months.
Will there be a chance that "Shadowhunters" season 2 will be canceled? With pre-production already scheduled, that might be difficult. But if Freeform will not be able to find a new showrunner for "Shadowhunters" season 2, a cancellation is said to be still on the table.
The news comes a week after the cast of "Shadowhunters" season 2 took home two Teen Choice Awards, Just Jared Jr reported. The show picked up Choice TV: Breakout Show and Choice TV: Breakout Star for Matthew Daddario, who plays Alec on "Shadowhunters" season 2.
