"Sherlock Season 4" has more than a few theories going. Among these are the resurfacing of Redbeard, which may not refer to the childhood pet Sherlock had but to the third Holmes brother as Parent Herald cites
Also buzzed is an actual return by James Moriarty in "Sherlock Season 4" despite the fact that Holmes' arch nemesis is supposed to be dead. Benedict Cumberbatch addressed the James Moriarty theory in his interview with Collider.
According to Benedict Cumberbatch, Holmes met his match in James Moriarty. Although "Sherlock Season 3" confirmed the death of Jame Moriarty, Benedict Cumberbatch says that this villain lives on in Holmes' fears.
Revealing how James Moriarty will continue to exist in "Sherlock Season 4," Benedict Cumberbatch more or less confirmed that he will continue to be confined in Holmes' mind. "He's terrorized Sherlock's mind," Benedict Cumberbatch stated.
This indicates that, as with the "Abominable Bride," "Sherlock Season 4" will play out key scenes that only exist in Holmes psychology. Masking which ones these are will be the fun that "Sherlock Season 4" will have with the viewers.
Continuing his description of what the audience can expect from "Sherlock Season 4," Benedict Cumberbatch parallels Holmes' experience to the darkness of the end of the universe. To be sure, Holmes will have the biggest challenges in "Sherlock Season 4," in no small part due to Culverton Smith (Toby Jones).
It does not help that co-writers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes) and the "Sherlock" cast iterated a few times that Season 4 will be tragic. This united declaration can only mean that a key character in "Sherlock Season 4" will die.
