For some reasons, Joelle Carter won't be able to make it to "Scandal" Season 6, and for that, the show had to recast Jake Ballard's (Scott Foley) new bride. "Glee" alum Jessalyn Gilsig is up to take over the role.
Jessalyn Gilsig is going to be the new face of Vanessa Moss, which was played by Joelle Carter towards the end of "Scandal" Season 5, TV Line has reported. While the network has not confirmed the recasting, the reason for the change is Joelle Carter's scheduling issues. The 44-year-old star has a series-regular commitment to the new NBC drama series "Chicago Justice," which is expected to premiere in early 2017. Since the sixth season of "Scandal" is also being delayed due to Kerry Washington's real-life pregnancy, the production of the two shows would be in conflict for Carter.
Jessalyn Gilsig has confirmed her recast via a Twitter post when the news came out. She wrote, "Been very excited to share this! Glad Joelle is onto something exciting and happy to step in!"
Jessalyn Gilsig is known for her role as Terri Schuester in "Glee" (2009-2015). Her long list of credits also includes "Vikings" (2013-2015), "Boston Public" (2000-2002), "Heroes" (2006-2008), and "Friday Night Lights" (2007-2008).
In other news, there were speculations that the sixth season will be the final season of "Scandal." But the new ABC President Channing Dungey said that it is not yet the end and there were no discussions about a series finale so far. When asked about the future of the show, Dungey said, "Long-running shows, there's always a little bit of ebb and flow. We have read the first script for the new season and it's fantastic. It feels very much like a return to form," as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
"Scandal" Season 6 is slated to premiere in midseason in early 2017.
