'Divergent' Finale TV Movie Latest News & Updates: Stars Theo James And Shailene Woodley Planning To Boycott Last Installment?

Shailene Woodley and Theo James might no longer be part of the finale from the "Divergent" franchise. The report comes after news have surfaced saying that "Divergent: Ascendant" will be a TV movie instead of the flick being released in cinemas.

Lionsgate reportedly wanted it to be a TV movie because there will be a spinoff series as well. "Divergent: Ascendant" was scheduled to be released in cinemas next year and it is unclear when the final franchise will be out if the reports are true about Lionsgate's plans.

The rumors have not been confirmed yet regarding "Divergent: Ascendant" being a TV movie so it remains unclear if any from the original cast will be starring in the finale movie. Miles Teller, one of the stars of the show, hinted about the possibility of "Divergent: Ascendant" being a TV movie, Movie News Guide reported. He shared in a recent statement, "We all signed on for it in hopes that it'd be released in theaters, and we all had every intention of finishing the franchise. It caught us all by surprise."

Teller, who plays the role of Peter in the "Divergent" series, also said that he is no longer sure if he will still reprise his role in the upcoming finale. He pointed out that "Divergent: Ascendant" being a TV movie might just mess up the entire finale.

As for Woodley and James, Morning Ledger said that a representative for the two said there are no final decisions made yet but they hope Lionsgate would rethink their plans of turning "Divergent: Ascendant" into a TV movie.

An insider familiar with the matter claims that "Divergent: Ascendant" possibly being a TV movie is because of the unsuccessful third installment. "Divergent" grossed $54.6 million while Insurgent was able to garner $52.3 million for the sales. The third installment had $29 million sales in total.

These reports are yet to be confirmed.
