Forget Whitewalkers, Jon Snow's man bun, Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons. We have George RR Martin confirming that another literary work from the "A Song of Ice and Fire" author will be heading to television sets soon. "Wild Cards" just might be the next TV phenomenon.
In the latest in George RR Martin news, The Verge has reported that the Universal Cable Productions has bought the TV adaptation rights for the science fiction/superhero anthology series "Wild Cards." Set during an alternate history after World War II, the 22 books (a 23rd book will be released this month) in "Wild Cards" are led by different characters though a particular focus is set on people affected by an alien virus called Wild Card that reformats DNA.
This is not the first time that George RR Martin's "Wild Cards" was announced as being developed for adaptation was announced. Back when "Game of Thrones," based on his successful novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire," became a hit for the first time, networks scrambled to option "Wild Cards" as a potential franchise.
George RR Martin's books play well with studios and networks as the fanbase of the "Game of Thrones" that is scheduled to end this 2018 can continue watching another saga from the author, the BBC reported. However, Martin himself stated that he will not be involved in any way in the production of "Wild Cards" as he has an exclusive contract with HBO.
