Olympics Basketball News & Update: Australia ‘Boomers’ Promises Game Against Team USA Won’t Be Easy

With Olympic favorites, Team USA Basketball, effortlessly cruising through their last few games, contenders Australia promises their upcoming bout won't be an easy one. After easily winning games, against Olympic-level competition, Team USA seemingly looks unstoppable.

In the 2012 London Olympics, the "Boomers" faced Team USA in the quarterfinal, where Australia lost to quite a margin, 4 years later, Team Australia looks to settle the score. Armed with the recently rising point guard, Matthew Dellavedova and NBA Champion Andrew Bogut, Australia aims to level the defending Olympic gold medalists.

"I've been in teams in the past where guys have asked for shoes before games," Andrew Bogut, the leader of the Aussie squad says. Regardless of the result, the Boomers look to be remembered by Team USA, not by being another team they comfortably breezed through, but a group that gave them a run for their money, according to Fox Sports .

"The beauty of our group is not one of our guys are intimidated by NBA players anymore," says Australian head coach, Andrej Lemanis, "We have got guys who have played with them and been their teammates and I know our guys will carry confidence into the game." The Australian "Boomers" believe that they could be the eighth team to conquer the American team, since 2002, according to the Herald Sun.

The last two runs of Team Australia in search of Olympic Basketball gold have ended in the quarter-finals, in the hands of Team USA. Both teams will square off on August 11, with Australia, hopefully looking for the big upset.

Australia has gained recent momentum after defeating world number 5, France, and world number 6, Senegal. Still the heavy underdog against Team USA, they continue to remain optimistic on the outcome.

Team USA has not lost an Olympic game since the arrival of "The Redeem Team" in 2008.
