Michael Phelps is one of the most decorated Olympians and history and is arguably the best swimmer to ever have graced the sport. Phelps is once again representing his country in this year's Olympic Games in Rio. Most recently, Phelps, with help from his fellow Team USA swimmers, won his 20th career Olympic gold and he did so with style.
It is rare for someone like Michael Phelps to lose, but unfortunately he narrowly lost out on gold in the 200-meter butterfly stroke event in the 2012 Olympic Games. He did not make the same mistake twice. You can tell how much conquering that event meant to him as he took a detour during his customary lap around the pool for photos in order to celebrate with his family.
Phelps didn't stop there. An hour later, he was back at it again, this time in the 4x200 freestyle relay. It is safe to say that Team USA dominated the event, with Phelps swimming the final lap to claim his 21st gold medal. This means that counting his non-golds, Phelps has 25 Olympic medals at just 31 years of age. The closest anyone has gotten has been 9 medals, according to a report from ESPN.
Phelps was quoted as saying that those doubles were among the most challenging of his career. "That was probably one of my most challenging doubles. Doing a double like that is a lot harder than it once was," said Phelps.
Phelps also made headlines for his celebration after winning the 200m butterfly. He notably wagged his finger, as per CNN News, causing a stir after he was seen displeased by one of his competitors shadowboxing directly in front of him. The American swimmer got the last laugh though, pumping his fist triumphantly after his head turning celebration.
