"Agent Carter" Season 2 served as the series finale for the Hayley Atwell-led Marvel drama. While many fans were pushing for the show's renewal in another network, it turns out the series is having a hard time looking for a new home. Why did Netflix refuse to pick up the series after its cancellation?
It seems like "Agent Carter" Season 3 will remain as a dream for fans and viewers of the Marvel TV series. When ABC decided to cancel the show after Season 2, many fans were optimistic that the show would be renewed on another network.
Several fans raised an online petition in hopes of getting "Agent Carter" renewed for Season 3 on Netflix. However, their hopes were turned down when Netflix chief officer Ted Sarandos told Entertainment Weekly that the online streaming service has no plans of renewing the show.
"We're looking for truly original brands to own," he said.
Sarandos explained that Netflix already has a couple of deals with Marvel and has no more space for "Agent Carter" Season 3. There are also conflicts with Marvel's deals with international outlets, so their decision to refuse the show is said to be more on the business side.
While "Agent Carter" Season 3 may be far from happening as of the moment, Marvel TV chief Jeph Loeb recently said that they are ready to do a movie adaptation of the series anytime, reports TVLine. Loeb explained that it is easier to do a movie than a TV series because the release would always depend on the network's decision.
The "Agent Carter" movie, however, still has to find someone who would be interested in investing and producing the film. The good news is that Hayley Atwell has already expressed her interest in reprising her role as Peggy no matter how long it takes.
