Rio Olympics Latest News & Updates: Nijat Rahimov Sets Up A New World Record In Weightlifting; Faces A Controversial Doping Issue

Nijat Rahimov of Kazakhstan took over and had a surprising day at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games as he won the Gold Medal last Wednesday. This adds up another medal for Kazakhstan and their second Gold.

Rahimov shocked the world with his world record breaking performance and took a Gold Medal for his country in the 77 Kilograms Men's Weightlifting Division in Rio 2016 Olympics. This makes a new world record after lifting 215Kg, beating the previous 207kg that was set in Sydney 2000 Olympics.

Within seconds of victory, his coach is run quickly towards Rahimov and came for a celebration. The BBC reported that Lyu Xiaojun of China only got a Silver Medal due to that he is heavier than Rahimov, while the Bronze Medal was given to Egypt's Mohamed Mahmoud in Rio 2016 Olympics Weightlifting Event.

Nijat Rahimov now faced a new controversy after winning Rio 2016 Gold Medal last Wednesday. This is similar to Rahimov's involvement in a doping issue he had a few years ago when he tested positive in Oxandrolone and Dehydromethyltestosterone last 2013.

Banned between 2013 and 2015, after Rahimov failed a test during the Azerbaijan competition. According to The Guardian, Azerbaijan is one of the countries who had been involved in a doping issue over and over.

In a press interview after Rahimov's victory, he only cites religious beliefs and a disciplined training that kept him to win the Rio 2016 Gold Medal. Rahimov didn't give any comments about the doping questions.

Rahimov said that he trains in the middle of a huge snow even during midnight as he makes his preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Egyptian Athlete Bronze Medalist Mohamed Mahmoud commented that Rahimov might gain some progress after avoiding the dope but still nobody can gain a lot of progress like what Rahimov possesses since there is only a short time period of preparation before the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Nijat Rahimov, a 22-year-old Weightlifting Athlete already collected 2 Gold Medals and a Silver Medal before getting his 3rd Rio 2016 Olympic Games yet, a very controversial Gold Medal. It's no surprise that he can win another medal in the Olympic Games.
