Expert’s Parenting Advice: Do You Know Who Your Children Are Communicating With Online?

Online communication using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and other social and messaging apps are very much useful for the young people today. However some of them also do encounter risks such as viewing inappropriate content or cyber bullying. For this reason, parents all over the world are encouraged by experts to be involved with this latest trend so that they can protect their kids from any danger online.

"We need to protect our kids in the virtual world. Modern technology gives us many ways to learn and stay connected. But it can also make our children vulnerable to predators and con artists," said U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan.

She also added that social pressures can also lead to bullying, or to behavior with criminal consequences kids don't fully understand.

Since the birth of Internet, cyber bullying has been an insistent issue. According to a report in BBC on October 2012, 15-year-old Amanda Todd Canada killed herself after being blackmailed online by a stranger.

Statistics and facts reported in NSOPW about Abuse via Technology clearly show how the internet has devastated (and will continue if not prevented) the lives of the young people. Parents should read this and be aware of the horrible truth.

In a ChristianExaminer report on October 2010, Vicki Courtney, a Christian speaker & author and Buddy Knight, Knight's Quest Ministries founder, both urge parents to learn everything they can about the capabilities of the media products their children use, set rules and monitor use, teach and train responsible usage, lead by example, and teach and keep on teaching a lifestyle of purity.

The world wide web can be as dangerous as the real world. Kidnapping is easy. Emotional stress is possible. Immorality is very much rampant. Your kid can be the worst kid ever even if he or she stays in the room for the whole day. He or she can also chase death while at your home doing nothing but tapping the keyboard and clicking the mouse.
