The "Open Run" podcast hosted by "Grey's Anatomy" actor Jesse Williams is now moving to the Uninterrupted digital network, a multimedia site owned by NBA superstar LeBron James. The sports and culture themed podcast's first episode with Uninterrupted featured James as a guest star.
Uninterrupted isn't leaning towards journalism, but it provides athletes and other influential personalities a platform to discuss topics outside of the game. This way, fans will get to know their idols beyond sports, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In his "Open Run" appearance on Wednesday, August 17, James discussed what he plans to achieve after playing in the NBA. James' team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, won its first major NBA championship in five decades last season.
The Cavs superstar told co-hosts Williams and Stefan Marolachakis that he would like to continue imparting his basketball knowledge after his NBA tenure, adding that he feels like his brain is "unique" as far as the sport is concerned, ESPN reported. James shared that he still wants to be "part of a franchise if not at the top."
As for his dreams of owning a team, the 31-year-old player said he doesn't need to be completely hands-on if that dream becomes a reality. What he would do is hire the best general manager, president, and players that don't just have talent, but also possess other traits that make up a talent such as "chemistry, what type of guy he is, his work ethic, his passion, the basketball I.Q. side of things," James listed. Without these traits, James doesn't think that talent wouldn't be enough.
Michael Jordan is the only principal owner of a team after retiring from the NBA. The former Chicago Bulls star athlete owns the Charlotte Hornets.
James appears to be chasing after Jordan's remarkable achievements in the NBA. Jordan has six championships under his belt, along with six Finals MVP awards, five regular-season MVPs, and the fourth-most points in NBA history. These feats propelled Jordan as the greatest basketball player of all time, ESPN noted.
James, meanwhile, has impressive attainments as well. He has three championships, three Finals MVP awards, four regular-season MVPs, and the 11th most points in history as of late. James also does philanthropic work with the LeBron James Family Foundation, and has recently signed a contract extension worth $100 million with the Cavs.
James has helped construct the Cavs and the team winning the title last year can be largely attributed to him. According to CBS Sports, James owning a team is highly likely and he has the love for basketball and the money to support it. We'll just have to wait and see.
