Shakira is not shy in giving her predictions about the possible future character traits of her sons. The singer admitted that she saw her boys becoming "modern men" when they grow up, according to ABC News. Shakira credited her partner, Gerard Pique, for likely passing on the traits to their two boys.
"I also think their dad is a good example of a modern man to emulate. Gerard and I pretty much share all parenting responsibilities, although I'm definitely the disciplinarian," she shared.
Shakira and her Spain native boyfriend are parents to two-year-old Milan and three-month-old Sasha. The couple are raising their kids both in the United States and Spain.
The Latina singer acknowledged the striking upbringing she and Gerard share, "Their dad and I both grew up in very close-knit families, and that has made us openly affectionate parents."
In addition to her career, the musician noted that being a mom is her number one life priority right now. Shakira said, "Becoming a mom forced me to re-prioritize and make room for the things that are most important, while recognizing that there are things I can let go of and the world won't crumble around me."
Shakira shared her strategy for raising her boys. "Growing up with a working mom is a start," she said.
As for juggling music and parenthood, Shakira fondly shared, "I really enjoy working on Spanish albums, but I always joke that Milan was easier to give birth to than my last album [2014's 'Shakira']!"
"I apply the same amount of dedication to being a mom as I do to my music -- I guess you could say music was my first baby."
Today.com reported that the Colombian native musician worked with Fisher Price in a baby toys collection promotion project last fall. Just after the project got started, Shakira gave birth to Sasha in January.
Shakira shared the child rearing culture in Spain in an interview with Parents Latina for its April 2015 issue, as reported in E! Online. She revealed, "In Spain, parents speak to their children as equals, and I feel that the children respond in turn."
"But in all three cultures, parents are attentive to their children," she shared.
As for the language the Latina singer and her partner pass on to their kids, Shakira said, "I would have to say Spanish, since I'm the one he [Milan] spends the most time with and it's my first language."
"I talk to him as much as possible-it serves as bonding time and helps his language-comprehension skills," she added.
