'Marco Polo' Season 3 Renewal & News: Lorenzo Richelmy Departing Netflix Show? Actor Talks New Project

Could "Marco Polo" star Lorenzo Richelmy be leaving the series? The actor hints in an exclusive interview that he's looking into other projects. As Netflix is taking its sweet time to announce the renewal of "Marco Polo" for Season 3, it's comprehensible why its cast is considering work outside of the series. What will happen if Lorenzo Richelmy leaves "Marco Polo" and will he actually depart?

As things go, all plans remain on hold for the Italian actor, who plays the titular role in "Marco Polo." In an interview with Daily News, Lorenzo Richelmy revealed that he has yet to hear of any "Marco Polo" Season 3 renewal confirmation. Like the fans of the show, he's also waiting to hear from Netflix. But as he's doing that, he is looking into other roles, but he also said he still cannot discuss what these are pending Netflix's word.

Lorenzo Richelmy said that working on "Marco Polo" usually involves nine months of on location shoot, which means he might not be able to take on other roles if the series does get renewed. However, being an integral character in the series that is mainly about Kublai Khan and the Yuan dynasty, the actor assures his fans that he's not about to turn his back on the show. "I don't want to spoil this experience, so I'm still riding the wave," he said. He has also acknowledged how the show has been a huge step for him, so he feels lucky to be in it.

"Marco Polo" debuted its second season on Netflix last July 1 and renewal announcement delays might be expected. Unlike television, Netflix follows a different model in releasing its shows. A full season is usually streamed all at once. Its executives acknowledge that with this procedure, shows will have to take time to amass viewers and subscribers.

But there is hope for a new season of "Marco Polo" because Netflix executives said that it has been able to achieve its original goal of grabbing a global market, per Parent Herald. While Netflix doesn't release any numbers to reveal how viewers are responding to a series, viewers have also given "Marco Polo" Season 2 high scores -- Rotten Tomatoes (94 percent), IMDb (8.1/10) and Metacritic (7.5/10).
