LeBron James Says He Wants to Play for Gregg Popovich; Calls Him “The Greatest Coach of All Time”

LeBron James is undoubtedly the best basketball player in the world today, with 3 NBA championships, multiple Olympic gold medals with Team USA, 7 consecutive NBA Finals appearances, and 4 NBA MVP awards under his belt, making him one of the most decorated athletes ever, but what James is still yearning for, is an opportunity to play for NBA coach, Gregg Popovich.

Gregg Popovich, the current head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, is hailed as one of the greatest basketball coaches in the history of the sport. Named NBA Coach of the Year three times in his career, "Pop" has also won 5 NBA Championships with the Spurs.

"King James" has had his own title runs with good NBA coaches, winning two titles under Erik Spoelstra and the Miami Heat, and one under Tyronne Lue and the Cleveland Cavaliers, but LeBron still wants to be one of Poppovich's players in some point in his career. According to USA Today, LeBron was quoted saying that it be "pretty amazing" if he could play for "the greatest NBA coach of all time."James was often on the other side of Poppovich's team, with James facing the San Antonio Spurs three times in the NBA finals and only winning once.

Perhaps the opportunity for James will come in the next Olympic games as Poppovich will take over the helm from Team USA's long-time head coach, Mike "Coach K" Krzyzewski, for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan, as James hinted that he might just be back on the Olympic team if his body would still be in top shape four years from now, at the age of 35, according to The Sports Daily.

LeBron James and Gregg Poppovich will still be crossing each other's paths, despite being on opposite sides, as James has recently signed a 3-year deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and Poppovich will continue his role as head coach for the San Antonio Spurs, a position he has held in over a decade.
