Some studies say that parenting a pet will make single people remain single because of the companionship that is already being maximized without being in a human relationship. Some researchers say that raising a pet can lead to mental illness. Now there are experts who say that adopting a pet with your partner can help you predict the his or her parenting skills.
A psychologist named Laura Heck told Brit.co said that a "pet test" is effective to see if your partner can be a good co-parent to your child or not. This is done through adopting a puppy or even a cat and you both try to co-parent the newly adopted pet.
Taking care of pets is much like a practice in taking care of kids. You feed them, sleep with them, provide for their needs, hang out with them, think about their future, train them, desire great things for them. These may sound exagerrated but if you ask many pet owners, you will not believe the love that their pets are actually receiving from them.
I myself am parenting a puppy and a dog. You will not believe it if I tell you that their foods and vitamins are even more expensive than mine. They go to the clinic and I do not even have my own regular check ups. When I adopted them, I learned how to sacrifice because I learned to love them unconditionally. They are like kids to me indeed. And I would say, I could be a good parent in the future.
I met someone when I was walking by the beach because my dog and his dog somehow got into each other's attention. We talked and we became friends and our dogs also did. He liked my dogs and saw that he was very much concerned of them too. I felt his love for my dogs as well. Knowing him deeper, I realized that he has a 8-year-old niece and I got the chance to meet her. I saw how the niece loves him and how he also loves her. He was like a parent to the niece. I just figured out that he really has a good heart and is very good at parenting, as he told me that his niece grew up with him and actually calls him daddy too.
Perhaps the love for pets can reflect something in the heart of man. Mahatma Ghandi once said that "The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated." I think it is more importantly applicable to individuals.
