Although NJ teens, Sydney McLaughlin, Shakur Stevenson, missed to bag an Olympic gold medal, unlike Laurie Hernandez who bagged silver and gold medals, all these three NJ teenagers felt so proud of what they have achieved in the Rio Olympics 2016. They took pride of being an Olympian!
In a post in nj.com, after losing the 400-meter hurdles event, Sydney McLaughlin, the youngest track and field Olympian of US, said that: "It's just the end of my season and not the end of my career." She also said that she was very happy that she made it that far and was proud herself in being an Olympian.
With a score of 15.333, Laurie Hernandez bagged the silver medal in women's balance with a poised and refined routine. Aside from the Olympic medals, Hernandez also got a heartwarming message from his idol Adam Levine and a good luck kiss from her celebrity crush, Zac Efron. Well, who wouldn't be proud of these life's sweet surprises?
Boxer Shakur Stevenson did not make it as bantamweight champion as he was defeated by Cuba's boxer Robeisy Ramirez. But according to a report published in SBNation, Stevenson said that: "I feel like I'll be back stronger than ever." He also added that though he was disappointed for letting down his people, he had a great experience.
The pressure on these NJ teenagers is huge, however, they have represented their home state well and even made America really proud. There are so many remarkable events that took place in Rio during the Olympics, but the performances of these three NJ teens have dominated it all.
Although they did not bring home the bacon, they did bring home a wonderful Olympian experience that they will treasure for the rest of their lives. Now that the Olympics has ended, having the title of being called an Olympian can be more precious after all.
