Pregnancy Alert: Preganat Mothers Be Wary of Being Exposed To Chemicals That Can Cause Autism

Antidepressants have long been linked to risk of autism spectrum during pregnancy but along with these are some unpopular chemicals that can also harm any kid inside a pregnant mother's tummy. Just a short inhalation of substances from such chemicals can be a lifetime suffering for both the mother and the child.

Organochlorines, for example, are chemicals that can be present in lubricants, insulators, and pesticides, and pregnant women are advised to keep themselves away from these. One type of organochlorines is the dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). These chemicals do not just harm the environment but most especially the bodies of human beings, especially pregnant women.

A study held at Drexel Autism Institute at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, showed that children with the highest prenatal exposure to PCBs had 80 percent greater risk of autism compared to the ones with the lowest prenatal exposure to the chemicals. It was also concluded that exposure to chemicals can cause some intellectual disabilities.

It is therefore important to be more alert with chemicals around you if you are pregnant. Some things that you can also do to keep your health perfect is to avoid smoking and drinking alcohol, eat more fresh produce (but carefully wash them always before eating), do not take too much of packaged foods, limit the use of beauty products, limit oily fish and tuna, and always remember that not all products that say "natural" are safe for you.

You need to keep your obstetrician updated about your situation and be open about everything so he or she knows how to help you. The whole period of 280 days is too short of a sacrifice which you can actually enjoy by keeping yourself healthy as well. Such period may have ups and downs but what matters is what will happen after birth. Will the baby grow normally? You surely want that to happen.
