After the operation of the U.S. Government in hunting the alleged "front company" of Kickass Torrents, Cryptoneat, now, the future of Kickass Torrents is dark. Other sites such as Torrentz also got affected by the U.S. operation and news has it that other torrent sites may follow.
Kickass Torrents became the largest Torrent site around the world, even surpassing The Pirate Bay, which was also closed down a couple of years back with Kickass Torrents getting the leverage. Now, the tides have changed.
With the disappearance of Kickass Torrents and Torrentz an increase of new members are pouring in for The Pirate Bay, Extra Torrent, Yify Torrents, Iso Hunt, Sumo Torrent, and more. However, news regarding the possible crackdown of the U.S. government in hunting the other torrent sites is mostly disturbing their users.
While piracy is considered wrong, the market for Kickass Torrents and other torrent sites are many. Right after KAT got closed, mirror sites with KAT.am simply went online. The site had identical design and similar domain which most KAT users got confused off.
However, these KAT.am mirrors were also closed down although some sites copying Kickass Torrents domain still remains. The U.S. government has been consistently battling pirate sites for years. However, just like the Pirate Bay, these sites will find loopholes in the system to keep their operation.
With the owner of Kickass Torrents out of the way, the big question still is will KAT live again? Well, its front company, Cryptoneat already closed down with most of its web profile disappearing from the web, according to Torrent Freak.
Employees working for Cryptoneat are also the same individuals working on KAT although according to reports they have already removed their connection with Cryptoneat while some of them have now found other jobs.
With only the owner getting sacked, it could be possible that his people would soon start Kickass Torrents with the use of another name as KAT has already been revoked. As for Torrentz, it may also find its way back.
Just like most torrent sites that get closed, it is still possible that these sites will get back up with another name or a new URL. For now, users may just be contented with the remaining torrent sites available.
