Marijuana News Update: Does Women Benefit More From Marijuana's High Compared to Men?

Medical marijuana paved the way in terms of providing medical advancement. One of the biggest debates, however, is the fact that the effects of marijuana have a greater impact on women compared to men.

In a study done by the Washington State University in 2014, it was revealed that women reap more benefits from using marijuana compared to men. The researchers came to conclusion that women enjoy marijuana's high 30 percent more compared to their male counterparts.

The researchers used mice on their studies. The mice were given THC and were observed closely. One of the factors that the researchers mentioned is the fact that the estrogen levels of females played a significant role in terms of boosting the effects of marijuana. HERB website mentioned that the higher the estrogen levels, the greater the high.

Though the study was backed by a research involving lab mice, it was slammed by the researchers from Columbia University Medical Center. The researchers also made another study on who gets more benefits from marijuana's effects. Columbia University Medical Center, however, used humans instead of mice.

The researchers came into conclusion opposite from what the team from Washington State University claimed. Columbia University Medical Center tested 42 human subjects. The researchers gave the participants marijuana for them to smoke, while some were given a placebo.

The subjects were then asked to dip their hands on ice cold water, which they would only remove when they can no longer stand the coldness and their hands would go numb. It was revealed that men, who smoked marijuana had better tolerance and was able to withstand the coldness upon smoking marijuana.

These claims, however, needs more testing as there are countless factors that can affect and increase pain tolerance. Women in nature are more tolerant when it comes to pain as they can withstand childbirth, thus further studies need to be done.

It was then mentioned that the study from Washington State University is backed by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. NIDA is solely focused on investigating the negative effects of marijuana, and other drugs. Other than the impact on males and females, the researchers came to conclusion that excessive marijuana consumption can possibly cause anxiety and paranoia.

Facts on marijuana consumption need further studies as it does have positive and negative effects. It is however proved to kill cancer cells, thus the legalization paved way for alternative medicine.
