The second season finale left the audiences hanging regarding the Abbies, Tomorrow's humankind, Kerry Campbell and Adam Hassler. Avid followers still seek for hints, but it looks like "Wayward Pines" Season 3 has the answers for all of these.
Show runners still does not expose the next plot and the theme of the upcoming episodes of "Wayward Pines" Season 3. However, rumors surrounding the story include that the M. Night Shyamalan-produced sequel has something to do with the Abbies and the human race in the upcoming instalment.
This speculation has been around prior to ending of season 2 wherein Abby held a human-like baby. Viewers said that the Abbies could be an altered society. In which, "Wayward Pines" Season 3 executive producer Crouch has also hinted as reported by Bustle.
In a dialogue with The Jakarta Post, the writer of the "Wayward Pines" Season 3 said, "Evolution has always pushed forward, and [the scene] suggests that the Abbies are changing also. The Abbies will evolve into something else. Yes, it looked like a human child, but would it be something perhaps more a stop even beyond the Abbies?"
To make it clear, Crouch's answer does not mean that a co-existence of the Abbies and humans are possible in "Wayward Pines" Season 3. If any, the bond between the Abbies and humans could continue and the baby's exposure in the final scene indicates the future of humankind and it seems to look very bright.
If the villagers of "Wayward Pines" have to fight with progression, this also means that villagers have to accept their disappearance. And in "Wayward Pines" Season 3, villagers might just be overwhelmingly overpowered by a newer generation of species, one they know nothing about.
So far, "Wayward Pines" Season 3 hasn't yet been renewed but FOX CEO Dana Walden exposed that there could indeed be another installment. If the show gets more screen time, it will air in the summer of 2017.
