Kim Kardashian is out to help another celebrity mom in a custody battle. According to US Magazine, Kim signed the petition together with Kelly Rutherford's "Gossip Girl" co-stars to advocate approval for the latter to gain custody of her kids. Rutherford has reportedly been in an international children custody battle with ex, Daniel Giersch, for six years now. Rutherford lost custody to her kids just last month.
"I signed this petition bc I believe it's the right thing to do & if u believe in it please sign it @KellyRutherford," Kim tweeted on May 12.
"I usually don't get involved in other people's lives especially if I don't know them but this story I've been following & as a mom touched me...I know I don't know you @KellyRutherford," she started. "... But as a mom I feel your pain and I wish you the best of luck! I hope you see your babies soon!" reads her tweet.
Meanwhile, Ed Westwick, one of Rutherford's co-stars in "Gossip Girl", posted, "This is my friend @KellyRutherford. You (yes, you) have the power to help her get her kids back."
Westwick posted a link to the petition with his message on Twitter. He played the character of Rutherford's stepson, Chuck Bass, in the TV series.
Matthew Settle, Rutherford's love interest on-screen, shared an Instagram photo of himself holding a sign to announce support for the actress as well. Settle posted the image on social media about two months ago.
He captioned the photo with the message, "@kellyrutherford @childrensjusticecampaign #bringkellyskidshom."
Us Weekly notes that Rutherford shared her sentiments about losing custody of her kids in a "Good Morning America" interview last month. "I know it's not right. Parents know - everyone knows it's not right," she said. "I can sit here and tell you how often I cry. I can tell you how it feels to leave my kids in a foreign country and seeing them after not seeing them for weeks on end. Not being able to bring them from school and pick them up from school, dress them, hug them, smell them," she shared.
On Mother's Day Sunday, Rutherford tweeted a message of appreciation meant for her fans and friends. "Thank all of U who are sharing & signing the petition," she posted. "Thank U for caring about the situation w/ my kids and #childrensrights almost there," she added.
According to The Toronto Sun, Rutherford will need 100,000 signatures to have the authorized official to make a decision favorable to the actress.
Rutherford hosted a charity event for her organization, "Children's Justice Campaign," in Beverly Hills yesterday, according to Daily Mail. Kardashian's mom, Kris Jenner, and Melanie Griffith were among the celebs in attendance.
