While the marriage between Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon did not work out, the star couple who are parents to 4-year old twins Moroccan and Monroe, seem to have found a way to get along. In fact, Nick even said in an interview with People Magazine that they can do co-parenting.
Couples in the midst of a divorce usually go through custody battles. It is one of the saddest parts about former husbands and wives splitting up, with the children always getting caught in the middle. However, this does not seem to be a problem between the two. Cannon, 34, reveals that the secret to achieving this is in "just staying focused and putting priorities in order."
"Being able to just step out and control whatever you can control, and the things that you can't, you just keep it moving," the host of "America's Got Talent" told People.
Cannon's attitude about their roles as parents who are living separated lives does seem to be working for them because he maintained an amicable relationship with Carey despite their divorce. In fact, the two recently enjoyed a holiday together with their children. The family happily spent Easter at the Bronx Zoo in New York, as reported by US Magazine. To mark the celebration, Carey even baked Easter cupcakes for her family which she shared on her Instagram account. Cannon also said that the children deserve moments like this. "My kids kind of get to experience the both worlds," he said in the US Magazine feature.
Recently, the celebrity also honored his ex-wife on Mother's Day by posting a message for her on his Instagram. Nick wrote, "Gotta represent for the Mother of my children. She is such a wonderful, thoughtful, festive, loving and nurturing Soul. I will forever be in debt to you for blessing me and the rest of the world with Roc & Roe. A true #Queen Will love you always @MariahCarey #HappyMothersDay."
So, why is the actor doing this? His logic is simple. "At the end of the day, that's what it's all about. You celebrate one another and celebrate family - you take time out for those moments," he told People.
In a recent TV interview on FOX, Cannon also said that the children has taught him to "start to see life through these innocent eyes." With this in mind, he is able to "appreciate the small things."
Cannon and Carey were married six years before calling it quits.
