The initial phase of "Pokémon GO" involves catching Pokémon and boosting your Experience Points or XP to advance your trainer's level. Reaching Level 5 in the game will allow you to participate in Gym battles under the banner of any of the three teams available: Valor, Mystic, or Instinct.
One "Pokémon GO" user named XTCrispy shared a Gym battle technique on Reddit's TheSilphRoad thread. The attack-and-retreat method for 6000 prestige Gyms allows players to defeat the top Pokémon Gym defender only twice instead of three times.
With the attack-and-retreat method, "Pokémon GO" players would have to fight the first Gym defender twice and retreat after defeating it twice as well. The same method should be done to the two remaining Pokémon Gym defenders.
XTCrispy's sample chart for the attack and retreat strategy showed beating an 800 CP Weepinbell and 1800 CP Vaporeon twice. The top Pokémon Gym defender, a 3000 CP Dragonite, was also defeated twice to take down the Gym's prestige level to zero from 6000.
It should be noted, however, that this method would make the winning attacker lose a 50 XP bonus. The "Pokémon GO" player would have to decide which is more important: the XP bonus or the time and items allotted to defeat a Gym's top Pokémon defender.
According to Game Press, the most effective Pokémon in defending Gyms are Dragonite, Lapras, and Snorlax. They have the ability to carry out satisfactory matchups against the broadest possible group of attackers and are capable of defending Gyms in basically all situations.
Only a small number of Pokémon can beat these great defenders. If you want to be a successful "Pokémon GO" Gym defender, you might want to consider investing your time in acquiring those three Pokémon listed above.
To successfully take over Gyms in "Pokémon GO," MobiPicker advised players to possess at least six powerful Pokémon. These six Pokémon will be chosen upfront for Gym battles, so you have to put your best foot forward.
Upon choosing six strong Pokémon, you should heal all of them to boost their HP level prior to the battle. This can be done by using Potions and Hyper Potions.
It's also important for "Pokémon GO" players to size up their Gym opponents. You have to check the stats of the Pokémon defending a Gym to determine which of yours has the advantage over it. Stay tuned to Parent Herald for the latest "Pokémon GO" news.
