There are rumors that the Charlotte Hornets is eyeing Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry in 2017 free agency. The speculations surfaced due to Curry and his family's North Carolina connection, where the Hornets is based in.
Jonny Auping of RealGM said that Curry transferring to the Hornets is highly unlikely. But the point guard's decision about the future of his career can be affected by the Warriors performance next summer.
According to Auping, Curry and Kevin Durant's involvement with the Warriors can be questioned if "any semblance of a chemistry issue can be scapegoated on a playoff or Finals loss" for the team. Curry, whose contract with the Warriors will end in 2017, was paid $12.1 million for the upcoming NBA season.
Curry has the most expensive and longest contract with the Warriors. However, he can forego re-signing with the Warriors if the team doesn't reach the championship in the upcoming season, according to Sportsrageous.
Durant, the Warriors' other superstar, can also join free agency again if the team has a less than stellar performance at the upcoming NBA season. However, these are all speculations for now and the two players' future with the Warriors remains to be seen.
Curry's history in North Carolina connects him with the Hornets. The 28-year-old player studied at Charlotte Christian in Charlotte and at Davidson College in Davidson. His father, the former NBA player Dell Curry, played for the Hornets from 1988 to 1998.
The Hornets signed former Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers player Roy Hibbert this summer with a one year, $5 million contract, Hoops Habit reported. The Hornets can use Hibbert's defense skills as a rim protecting backup center to stabilize the team's dynamic.
Hibbert may not be the fastest or the most athletic defender, but he has outstanding positioning and a good grasp of the NBA's "verticality rule." His 7-foot-3 towering height also helps him block or alter shots successfully.
On the other hand, there are rumors that the Cleveland Cavaliers is considering trading Kevin Love for Carmelo Anthony, Sportsrageous reported. Anthony would be a great fit with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving against the Warriors' so-called super team led by Curry, Durant, and Klay Thompson.
