The long-time running massively multiplayer online role-player game "EVE Online" will now be available for free play. Game developers, CCP Games, recently made the big announcement as part of a major update for the game this November.
"EVE Online" has been one of the longest-running MMORPGs in PC gaming history, having been around for more than a decade since it's release in May of 2003. Players in the game can participate in numerous in-game professions and activities, such as mining, manufacturing, piracy, trading, exploration, and combat.
Until recently, players had to pay in order to play the game. But now, CCP Games has made the announcement that players may now have access to the game for free, but with certain limitations. According to The Verge, CCP has made the game free due to the dwindling number of players. The new free option will allow for new players to join "EVE Online," as well as enticing older ones to return.
In the "EVE Online" blog site, the developers of the game have made two new "Clone States" for players, the Omega Clone State and the Alpha Clone State. The Omega Clone State are for players who have previously registered for the MMORPG game. The Omega Clones will augment basic clones using neural expanders and cerebral acceleration technology, which will grant unlimited skill access, but will maintain the behavior of their original character.
As for the Alpha Clone State, which is designed for the new players of "EVE Online" that will register for free, it is the new base state for clones and will be able to train and use a specific set of skills including tech one Frigates, Cruisers, and Destroyers. However, Alpha Clone States will train skills at a slower rate than the Omegas.
The CCP will continue to release new expansions and updates for free, and the monthly subscription for existing players will still remain the same.
