"Education is important to us!" This is the cry of the refugee children in Jordan's Zaatari refugee camp. For these Syrian youths, education is their only hope for a better future.
"Education is the first block in building a strong society, and without it, there will be no doctors, teachers or engineers to help rebuild Syria," Alaa, refugee student in Za'atari refugee camp in Jordan, said in a report published in Our World.
Since 2011, more than 4 million refugees have escaped Syria with most of them looking for a refuge in adjacent countries. Due to this, it is not shocking to find out that too many kids are not joining schools. In fact, according to a report in the Relief Web, more than 80,000 out of 226,000 kids were not enrolled in a formal education last school year.
To meet this problem, several partners from international agencies, government NGOs, UN and international donors are starting to pop up together to instill education and promote learning opportunities. And International Commission on Financing Global Education Opportunity is one of them.
Based on a report by The Guardian, ensuring access to inclusive and quality education for kids, particularly girls, will lead to lesser child marriages and fewer child exploitation and labor. Moreover, education can bring lasting benefits to the society.
There are so many educational opportunities which can be served to refugee kids. However, before executing programs and policies, there are some issues that must be considered first such as the language of teaching, a most suitable program for the Syrian youths to follow, transportation costs, recognition of accreditations and qualifications and lastly school payments.
Beyond giving these refugees quality schooling, other important developmental factors can be provided such as emotional and social support, protective and safe environments. Most specially provide them aspirations and hope.
