New Year, New Beginnings: Improve Kid's Quality of Life through New Year Resolutions

Leave the past behind and think about the future. Setting up new goals during the beginning of a new year and trying hard to achieve them can help in improving the quality of life.

Following are some New Year tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that help kids remain healthy and happy:

Preschoolers

* I will keep myself always clean and tidy, brush teeth twice daily and clean hands before eating and after using bathroom

* I will keep my toys back in the proper place after playing

* I will be careful while handling dogs and other pets and I will not tease them

Children aged between five and 12

* I will avoid drinking unhealthy drinks like soda, sugary drinks.

* On the other hand, I will drink low-fat milk and water every day

* I will keep myself physically active by sparing a few minutes for any sport or other activity

* I will not provide my personal details, address or picture to a stranger online

* I will help other children who need help

* I will not ride my bicycle without wearing a helmet

* I will avoid playing outdoors on sunny days and use sunscreen lotion before I step out of my house

Teens (13 years-old and above)

* I will follow a healthy lifestyle by eating fruits and vegetables daily and restricting my soda consumption

* I will keep myself fit and fine through physical activity

* I will watch TV only for two hours daily and avoid violent TV shows and video games

* I will volunteer in community activities

* I will deal with my stress and anger by reading books, exercising or discussing with parents or friends

* I will not use tobacco, alcohol or drugs

* I will follow safety measures while driving

* I will maintain good behavior while dating
