A little more than two weeks before the Emmy Awards 2016, the Best Drama series race has become one of most watched categories for awards prognosticators and critics. The Emmy Awards 2016 category is filled with cable fare, with nominees "Mr. Robot" and "The Americans" entering for the first time.
Momentum for the Emmy Awards 2016 Best Drama Series seems to be leaning to current champ "Game of Thrones," according to Gold Derby. The medieval fantasy drama has bounced back from the critical bashing caused by some of its story choices in its fifth season. The last two episodes, "Battle of the Bastards" and "Winds of Winter," have become two of the best episodes in the show's history and this has contributed to the show's raised profile in time for the Emmy Awards 2016. It also helps that the show has five acting nominees this year, always a great indicator for series honors, Variety reported.
There is also a chance that there will be an Emmy Awards 2016 upset by either "Mr. Robot" or "The Americans." The former's stellar premiere season has rocked the industry for its focus on anti-elite sentiment and depression while the latter has been underrated for years despite being a critical darling. Working for both show's advantage in the Emmy Awards 2016 race is the networks they are on all have their own loyal following which could be an assurance for high votes.
"Better Call Saul" was still good in its second season but fatigue on the show's mood (and its predecessor "Breaking Bad") has set in. "Downton Abbey," "House of Cards" and "Homeland" may have recovered from less critically acclaimed previous seasons but an Emmy Awards 2016 victory for them is not in sight.
