The first footage for the thirteenth season of "Grey's Anatomy" doesn't bode well for Alex. The doctor's future is in jeopardy after his violent assault on DeLuca toward the end of the show's Season 12.
The "Grey's Anatomy" footage showcased the serious repercussions Alex (Justin Chambers) has to face after his bloody attack on DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti), who ended up in the hospital after the ordeal. During a heated discussion about the scuffle, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) was seen asking Alex, "You think nobody's going to realize this is you?"
Meredith also warned Alex that he could go to jail for his violent actions, while Alex asks her if she's "going to turn him in." Jo (Camilla Luddington), meanwhile, is not present during the 15-second footage. Watch the clip from "Grey's Anatomy" below.
The Season 12 finale of "Grey's Anatomy" featured Jo refusing to marry Alex and getting drunk with DeLuca. While inebriated, Jo revealed to DeLuca that she is using a fake name and that she's already a married woman but ran from her husband, who secretly abused her.
Later, as DeLuca was putting Jo to bed, he accidentally fell on top of her. That was when Alex walked in and blinded by his anger, punched DeLuca.
Kelly McCreary, who portrays DeLuca's ex, Maggie, on "Grey's Anatomy," said Alex's assault will result to an "intense fallout" among the doctors at Grey Sloan, TV.com reported. There will be friction among them and sides will "definitely" be taken.
As for Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew), "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly that Season 13 will explore them "in a much lighter way, what it means to be uncoupled, to be divorced, and to have a kid." Viewers often see Jesse and April fighting, but the upcoming episodes will feature them trying to have a "healthy" relationship for the sake of their child. That planned healthy bond, however, may become complicated given that they still have feelings for each other.
Williams told TVLine in May that there's still hope for a romance between Jackson and April. The actor said the duo "care deeply about each other" and their emotional slate is never going to be "wiped completely clean." Jackson and April may be divorced, but they're still "clearly each other's person" and they're still physically drawn to one another, Williams added.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 premieres on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 8/7c on ABC. Check out exclusive first look photos from Season 13 on EW.
