Steve Rogers literally defines Captain America. He is an ideal American soldier and the natural leader of the Avengers. He fights for the ideals that America stands for.
Things are going to change now. Steve Rogers will no longer be Captain America. The "Civil War" directors Joe and Anthony Russo said that when Steve dropped his shield at the end of the film, he indicated that it's the end. It was a symbolic gesture of his exit.
"I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity," Joe Russo told. "[It's] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making."
It seems to be very much in sync with the plot of the movie as after the events of "Captain America: Civil War," Steve is a fugitive wanted by the U.S. government. This is because he failed to adhere with the Sokovia Accords. This is a huge deviation from the image of the patriot we know, reported Tech Times.
There might be another plot line opening up now. Like in Marvel Comics, he could adopt the superhero persona known as the Nomad. There was a point in the comics, where Steve adopts a new costume and the Nomad name after becoming disillusioned with the government. So, will he take up a new avatar in the Marvel cinematic universe?
However, Steve will be back as Captain America for 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War." Especially, while facing Thanos, Avengers will be the guidance of an able leader. There must be a super story line that explains how he will be brought back in the role, reported Huffington Post.
In the Marvel comics, it is seen that Steve is brainwashed into serving Hydra and the Red Skull. This idea appalled many fans as they did not want their favorite superhero to turn bad. Whatever said and done, it is clear that "Avengers: Infinity War" would not be the same if Steve is not at the helm of things.
