With the successful introduction of Caitlyn Jenner, previously knowns as Bruce Jenner, to the world, one person's reaction to the former Olympian's transformation is highly anticipated by the public - her mother. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Esther Jenner shared that she still finds it difficult to adjust to the change but clarified that she could not be prouder of her son - now daughter - for this courageous feat.
Esther shared that she met Caitlyn last week. As the two of them got together, the 88-year-old revealed that her child appears to be "so much more at ease" with this new phase in her life. Esther also described Caitlyn as "beautiful" when she saw the cover photo featured in Vanity Fair.
While Esther seems to be fully accepting of her child's decisions, Caitlyn's mother admitted that she still has limitations with respect the transition. "I still have to call him Bruce," she said to Access Hollywood. She went on to say, "His father and I named him that. It's going to be a struggle for me to get used to the change, but happily so...I'm very happy for him-or her."
The insistence of her loved ones to still call her Bruce as well as the confusion of some people with regard the pronoun to use when talking to her do not seem to bother Caitlyn though. In the interview with Vanity Fair, she admitted that she herself actually makes the same mistakes.
"I don't really get hung up," Caitlyn told the interviewer, Buzz Bissinger, after the latter repeatedly apologized about using the wrong pronoun to address her. She added, "A guy came in the other day and I was fully dressed-it's just habit, I said, 'Hi, Bruce here,' and I went, Oh f***, it ain't Bruce, I was screwing up doing it."
Meanwhile, Caitlyn also addressed in the same interview the comments made by others regarding her motivation to undergo the transformation. "I'm not doing it for money," she said, referring to the rumors that claim this is the reason behind her decision. She asserted that her move to finally pursue her "true self" stemmed from her desire to "help my soul and help other people."
"If I can make a dollar, I certainly am not stupid. [I have] house payments and all that kind of stuff. I will never make an excuse for something like that. Yeah, this is a business. You don't go out and change your gender for a television show. O.K., it ain't happening. I don't care who you are," Caitlyn pointed out.
