The brother of superstar Mariah Carey has spoken up and revealed his fears about his sister's substance abuse. Morgan, who reportedly has not spoken to Mariah in the last two years, believes that his sister is so troubled and problematic that she's turning to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain, Daily Mail reports.
Morgan said that Mariah has had a drinking problem since suffering a mental breakdown back in 2001. He claims that the "Always Be My Baby" hitmaker was even drinking while she was pregnant and nursing the twins, Morroccan and Monroe, who are now 4 years old. Since then, the situation has just gotten worse.
"I can't say that I have ever been around her when she was sober, and that's very scary," Morgan said in the report. The brother believes that Mariah is surrounded by a lot of enablers, according to Radar Online. "She does not have a support system, and she is not mentally capable," Morgan reiterated.
Other than alcohol, Morgan said that Mariah has been dependent on pain killers like Zyprexa, Ativan and Depakote. He admits that his sister's situation is a big concern and even went so far to say that Mariah could die just like Whitney Houston. "If my sister turns up dead, I'm not going to look the other way! Anyone who's filling her glass is jeopardizing her life!" Morgan told Radar.
Morgan believes that Mariah's ex-husband and the father of the twins, "America's Got Talent" host and actor Nick Cannon, took "tremendous advantage of her and continues to do so." He insinuated that Nick is a gold-digger and doesn't really care about Mariah. When the two divorced, he was the last person surprised about what happened.
However, Morgan admits he is unable to help his Grammy-winning sister due to their estrangement. He revealed that he and Mariah grew apart because "she's pushed away the only people who've been trustworthy," as reported on In Touch Weekly.
Reps from both Mariah and Nick's camps have not made any comment regarding Morgan's revelation. Despite the current controversy hounding her, Mariah is keeping herself busy with a new song, "Infinity," in collaboration with Match.Com, the dating site, as reported by People Magazine. "I hope every woman who is single and listens to this song goes out and finds her infinity, whether on Match or the traditional way," said Mariah, who even has a profile on the dating site.
