Workaround for ‘Pokémon Go’ on Rooted, Jailbroken Devices

One of the recent updates from Niantic Labs on the instant hit Pokémon Go has blocked players who are using rooted Android phones and jailbroken devices. According to the developer, this is a way to cast away those who tinker the settings of their devices so they can cheat the game. But fret not, there are workarounds that have been found so you can still play Pokémon Go on rooted and jailbroken devices.

Niantic Labs recently rolled out an update on the "Pokémon Go" game, which brought new features, such as Buddy, and other smaller tweaks. However, it also made "Pokémon Go" incompatible with rooted Android and jailbroken iOS devices. In line with this, XDA-Developers user topjohnwu developed Magisk, short for "Magic Mask," a mod that masks any modifications to the operating system of a device from apps that demand unmodified systems, according to Android Authority.

The publication warned that the process of installing the mod is not that easy; it involves flashing Magisk and other related files. But on the positive note, hiding the root status from "Pokémon Go" would be easy-breezy once Magisk has been installed. Below is a video demonstrating how to use Magisk on your rooted Android device.

Meanwhile, if you are using a jailbroken Apple device, the answer is Masterball. Cydia Geeks reported that this is a new jailbreak tweak developed by CokePokes, the creator of Phantom for Snapchat, which enables owners of jailbroken devices to bypass jailbreak detection in the new "Pokémon Go" app. The Masterball software can be downloaded from CokePokes site. Install it and you're good to go.

If in case Masterball did not work for you, another workaround is available, but for a cost. It is called tsprotecter8, which can be purchased on Cydia. There is a trial version from the BigBoss repo. Another option is PokePatch from ryleyangus.com/repo.
