"Black-ish" Season 3 welcomes a new cast member, with Lorraine Toussaint having booked for a guest star appearance. Reports revealed that she is going play as Pops' (Laurence Fishburne) sister.
Lorraine Toussaint will play as Almaviligerais, or A.V. for short. According to Variety, A.V. is "always on the hustle, pulls no punches and is down for whatever." She's a love interest of Dre (Anthony Anderson), but since Ruby (Jenifer Lewis) doesn't like her, Dre has to conceal his feelings when Ruby is around.
"We knew we needed an actor formidable enough to go toe-to-toe with both Pops and Ruby. That's a short list, and Lorraine Toussaint was at the top of it. We're so thrilled she's joining us," executive producer and co-showrunner Jonathan Groff revealed to Variety.
Lorraine Toussaint, who admits that she's a fan of the show herself, is thrilled to be part of "Black-ish." For now the "Orange is the New Black" star is sure to appear in one episode to be filmed next week.
The ABC comedy returns with Dre, Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross), and the rest of the gang heading to Disney World. The premiere episode is aptly titled "VIP." According to E! Online, Jim Rash will serve as their VIP tour guide, Cody. Dre hired him to make the vacation as magical as possible.
"Black-ish" Season 3 will also feature "Hamilton" star Daveed Diggs. Diggs is set to play as Rainbow's brother, Johan. He has been booked for a recurring role. The show also features Laurence Fishburne, Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Jenifer Lewis, and Peter Mackenzie.
"Black-ish" Season 3 has received several Emmy nominations this year including Outstanding Leading Actor in a Comedy for Anthony Anderson, Oustanding Leading Actor in a Comedy for Tracee Ellis Ross, as well as an Outstanding Comedy Series. It is slated to premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 9:30 p.m. on ABC.
