Natalie Portman amazed everyone with her recent portrayal as the former first lady, Jackie Kennedy, in the movie "Jackie." The director said he didn't see anyone who could play Jackie Kennedy than the stunning actress.
Chilean director Pablo Larrain revealed to Vanity Fair during the Toronto Film Festival that only Natalie Portman was meant to play Jacqueline Kennedy in the movie "Jackie."
"Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky offered a script of the biopic of former first lady Jackie Kennedy to Pablo Larrain, which the latter agreed to do on one condition: That Natalie Portman play the lead role. Pablo Larrain admitted that he wasn't that interested in the story and he hasn't made a film about a female character.
A meeting was set between Natalie Portman and Pablo Larrain in Paris, where the actress is living. "I told her, 'Look, I have not talked to the writer but if I were to do this movie, I would take out all of the scenes you are not in,'" says Pablo Larrain.
Pablo Larrain also disclosed that he had not a clue on how to do the movie, saying he cannot find a connection with Jackie Kennedy. "I don't know why you are calling a Chilean to make a movie about Jackie Kennedy but that's your call," he told Darren Aronofsky.
The award-winning director researched about the former first lady and was astonished of what she had done. Pablo Larrain said he fell in love with her and all the things she did.
Natalie Portman did her part as well, researching her character before filming. The "No Strings Attached" actress also had voice lessons to perfect Jackie Kennedy's mid-Atlantic accent.
The 35-year-old actress has been lauded and praised by critics, describing her work as astonishing. Co-starring with Natalie Portman are Peter Sarsgaard and Greta Gerwig.
