Rapper Chet Haze Says Father Tom Hanks & Mom Rita Wilson Don't Get Social Media; Says 'They're Old!'

Chet Haze, 24, the controversial son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, was advised by his parents to steer clear of social media, Page Six reported.

In an interview with TMZ, the wanna-be rapper said, "My parents, they be telling me ... to stay off social media, period." He added that his parents advised him not to be on Instagram too much, even before he got into trouble.

Chet Haze got the spotlight earlier this month after using the n-word and pinning it into his Instagram account. The rapper said that he has no ill intention in using the word. In fact, he has black friends and they use the word together.

He defended that his use of the word should not be associated with a negative connotation to race but rather, to his identification with the hip hop culture.

He said, "White people use that term... it is a unspoken thing amongst their black friends. I wouldn't go up to any black person and say it if I don't know them like that."

However, despite Haze's defense, one of his friends, Scrilla King, revealed to TMZ in a separate report that he ended his six-year friendship with Haze due to his usage of the word. "It's disrespectful. He thinks it's a joke," he stated.

According to Page Six, Chester Hanks -- the rapper's real name -- has struggled with substance abuse since he was 16. Chester even underwent rehabilitation for cocaine addiction last year.

Despite Chet's poor choices when he was younger, his parents are very supportive of him.

"My parents are making sure I'm good. They don't really tell me what to do anymore because I'm grown. They just [want to] make sure I'm happy and safe," he told TMZ.

Chet, however, has no intention of heeding his parents' advice. He said, "they're the old generation, they don't get it. This is the new generation. We do things differently now. If you don't get it, you're not going to get it."

Just recently, Chet got into another trouble after allegedly trashing a London hotel room with damages worth $1,800.

The rapper has been already back in LA and back to work. An insider told Page Six that Chet has been working out a lot and focusing on his music. Hanks also offered a word of advice to his son. According to the insider, "He's encouraged him to block out what people are saying and just keep focusing on music."
