After almost two years of absence, the thriller crime drama "The Fall" finally aired the first episode of its third season return on RTÉ One, setting the new series up for a whole load of ups and downs. Meanwhile, for those who missed the season premiere, a teaser has been released to help them keep up their thirst.
Mere hours before "The Fall" season 3 aired its premiere episode, BBC Northern Ireland released a short, yet very chilling teaser on its official Facebook page, as reported by Belfast Live. The teaser showed Jamie Dornan's Paul Spector lying unconscious on a hospital bed, with all the indications of his terrible fate at the end of the previous season.
During the final episode of "The Fall" season 2, serial killer Paul Spector was finally caught by the authorities. With Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson) finally in the interrogation room with her perp, she managed to make Spector confess to all his past crimes but fail to force him to reveal the fate and location of his latest victim.
After agreeing to let Spector see his daughter, Gibson was finally led to a secluded location where she managed to locate the victim. Unfortunately, they were followed by James Tyler (Brian Milligan) who shot Spector, leaving his fate uncertain when "The Fall" season 2 ended.
Now, in the premiere of "The Fall" season 3, Spector was in the middle of an unconscious struggle for his own life after being operated on by doctors according to a recap by The Irish Times. The shot shown in the teaser trailer was expanded on the episode itself, with Gibson's voice over in that video featured clearer.
Uncertain about her captive's fate, Gibson expressed her hope for Spector to recover just so he can stand trial and pay for his crimes throughout the previous seasons of "The Fall" the hard way. According to Gibson, Spector's death would only mean that he would have "no court case, no sentence, no punishment, no closure for the families."
As this third season of "The Fall" is set to be the closing act, at least probably for Spector's arc, the character's fate in the following episodes is up in the air. Meanwhile, for the premiere, fans who missed its airing on RTÉ One will have another chance come Thursday, Sept. 29 on BBC Two.
