Pregnant women have equal rights with those women who are not carrying a child while trying to make a living. Unfortunately, there are pregnant women out there who are not aware of their rights and are suffering from discrimination just because they have a child inside their womb. It is best if women are aware of the Pregnancy Discrimination Act in the United States because it protects them from wrongful termination and other acts of discrimination in the workplace.
The United States is not the only country who has women struggling with this issue. In an article published by BBC, three women in Ireland were denied an opportunity to work because they are pregnant. This led to them filing complaints, and they eventually got settlements amounting to £15,500.
In the U.S., pregnant women could file a complaint if their rights have been violated in the workplace. There are laws now that protect women in all walks of life, especially when they are simply trying to make a living. According to Mondaq, women should have a knowledge about the Pregnancy Discrimination Act that was established in 1978. This law stops the act of discrimination to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding in the workplace.
This law also helps women to still be able to find employment despite being pregnant. It also gives them rights to getting benefits when it is time for them to deliver their child. There are lots of women who are working hard, trying to multi-task and keep up with their jobs at the same time as being a parent.
This is why this law was implemented to not only protect the rights of women but to also give them benefits that they are in principle to acquire. If you know any pregnant women who are struggling with discrimination, please share this information to do them a huge favor.
