With the release of the Xperia XZ and Xperia X Compact at the recently concluded IFA 2016 in Berlin, is the Japanese conglomerate ready to go one on one with Apple to achieve Smartphone Supremacy? Over the years, the tech world has seen some of the best technology, not only in terms of Smartphones but in the expanse of the entire digital hemisphere, from Sony.
In fact, their Xperia line is no exception: elegant and sophisticated yet built to withstand everyday wear and tear and the elements. While some experts believe that Sony has established itself to be one of the top getters in the Smartphone arena, can the Xperia XZ topple the intimidating force that is the iPhone 7?
Tech website BGR believes that it can challenge Apple's pride. It said that Sony prides itself on putting "one of the most advanced cameras in smartphones" in their new models. Both have a new "triple-image sensing technology" that blends the company's Exmor RS technology, plus two more sensors for color sensing with the use of an RGBC IR sensor and distance sensing via Laser Autofocus.
Sony added that its 23megapixel clicker can go "from standby to capture in 0.6 seconds" courtesy of its dedicated shutter release buttons. In addition, the Xperia XZ also packs a 13megapixel front facing camera with ISO 6400 and a 22mm/90-degree wide-angle lens.
It also offers the "world's first 5-axis image stabilization", which means that videos recorded on the XZ's 4K recording mode will be top-notch, if not, movie quality. However, image and camera quality aren't the only features consumers are looking for their next Smartphone options; physical dimensions and the technology inside will likewise spell the difference.
As for the Xperia XZ, Sony decided to make it metallic with rounded edges plus a generous coating of Gorilla Glass and a fingerprint sensor for added protection. It will also come equipped with 5.2inch, full HD IPS LCD display.
In terms of its innards, GSM Arena pointed that the Xperia XZ will sport a 32GB and 64GB storage option, plus a standard 3GB RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip, 2,900mAh battery, Quick Charge 3.0 and will run Google's Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with a potential Nougat upgrade in the future.
On the other corner, the Apple iPhone 7 will ship with an ion-strengthened glass, "pressure-sensitive" Home button, a 4.7inch Retina HD LCD, a whopping 128GB internal memory, 2GB RAM and an A10 Fusion quad-core CPU. Camera-wise, it will boast a 12megapixel rear camera alongside a 7megapixel front facing snapper with features like quad-LED flash, phase detection autofocus and simultaneous 4K video recording.
