The staff at St Clements Osteopathy and Massage Clinic have drawn up the listing in an attempt to help address what they caution is quickly becoming a "sedentary epidemic." Specifically, they gave a few great tips on how one can beat back problems.
They (staff at St Clements) believe that sedentary working routines and a raise in computer-based jobs are causing an increasing number of back problems in most people, the Oxford Mail reports. To mark their 10th anniversary this year, the staff gave some free advices on how to keep ligaments, joints and bones pain-free and flexible, the report continues.
"Most people are not aware of the risks of sitting all day long," Senior Osteopath Tom Bedford, founder of the clinic, told Oxford Mail. "The research evidence is very strong that physical inactivity is life-shortening."
Approximately 60 to 80 percent of populations in the world from both developed and developing nations lead a sedentary lifestyle, thus making it one of the more serious yet inefficiently addressed public health problems of our time, according to WHO. The health organization explains that sedentary lifestyles increase all causes of obesity, diabetes and double the cardiovascular diseases risk.
Here are tips to beat back pain problems according to the staff at St Clements:
- Take a break and do some stretching every 30 minutes. You do not need to stretch for long hours, 30 seconds is just enough.
- Always put one liter of water on your table. This won't just push you to visit bathroom more often but will also cause you to sweat, and it helps with concentration.
- When on meetings, instead of just sitting down, try to walk around while discussing a report or proposal.
- Stand up whenever taking phone calls. If you do this always it will become your habit and so you do not need to compel yourself to walk.
- Make small movements. Moving around in your office chair helps ease the pressure on your bones, ligaments and joints caused by sitting for long hours.
