Kids on Cannabis: Colorado Updates the Edible Marijuana Wrappers To Avoid Accidental Consumption Among Children

Medical marijuana is already the way for alternative medicine among patients who would opt for a more organic solution when it comes to their healthcare concerns. Marijuana legalization shed light to Colorado's advancement. Two years after marijuana was legalized, the state continually improves their marijuana law for the safety of the consumers.

Marijuana legalization created a positive impact in Colorado as they managed to benefit not only from the alternative health care but the revenues they were able to acquire from taxes as well. Aside from the medical marijuana legalization, recreational use was also approved, which turned out to be a problem for some parents.

After recreational marijuana was legalized, the numbers among accidental marijuana consumption increased as children would be drawn to the packaging, not knowing that the sugary treat that they're about to consume has weed according to Parent Herald. The Colorado government was quick to address the issue as they revised the law concerning marijuana edibles. It was mentioned that marijuana edibles to come with a wrapper that can be easily distinguished by consumers.

"We want to ensure that people genuinely know the difference between a Duncan Hines brownie and a marijuana brownie, just by looking at it," said state Rep. Jonathan Singer, a Democrat who sponsored the law requiring stamped edibles.

Andrew Schrot, a company founder stated that he used to pack his goodies in a way that it looks like a regular chocolate bar. He then added that as the recreational marijuana continually expand, the company needed to make a move in coming up with a safer packaging, Denverite's report.

"This is not your normal chocolate bar. There's something different about it. You can tell just from looking at it," Andrew Schrot said. "Some of the industry expectation was, 'Let's keep it on the parents and the users in keeping it away from children or people who shouldn't use it, but you know, sometimes mistakes happen. You turn your back and a product is left out."

The new regulation concerning the marijuana edible wrappers is said to take effect on Oct. 1, Saturday. Each edible marijuana product is required to have a diamond-shaped sticker which has letters THC stamped on it.
