Parenting Evolution: Are Well-Educated Parents Better? Study Reveals College-Educated Parents Tend To Spend More Time With Their Kids

In an era where both mothers and fathers are busy with their careers, it is a given fact that some parents do not spend some quality time with their kids. But a recent research conducted by the University of California, Irvine revealed a quite surprising finding - college-educated parents are spending more time with their children than parents in the mid-'60s.

Based on a study published online in the Journal of Marriage and Family, experts found how parenting evolved and the impact of education levels to parents. According to University of California News, parents with college education spent almost 123 minutes on childcare daily while less-educated ones only spent 94 minutes daily.

The research findings are also consistent with the "intensive parenting" dogma that has become a cultural child-rearing trend. In addition, University of California, Irvine Chancellor's Professor of Sociology and study co-author Judith Treas explained that spending quality time with the children could have positive behavioral, cognitive and academic outcomes.

Meanwhile, parents would definitely agree that there's no job more significant and more challenging than child-rearing. However, most if not all parents enter the world of parenthood with little to no preparation and no formal training at all.

Even though most parents believe that love is the strongest foundation to effectively raise a child, The Huffington Post pointed out the reality that love is really not enough in parenting. As a matter of fact, there has been reportedly a "paradigm shift" in the art of parenting, where learning about child-rearing comes while parents are learning about their kids.

In order to master the art of parenting, another Huffington Post report outlined how parents can surpass when parenting gets tough and overwhelming. As per parenting coach and writer Miriam Mason Martineau, there's really a lot of skills to practice such as the practice of self-awareness, learning to stand calm and steady, the practice of presence and many others.

Meanwhile, contemporary parents are more focused on adapting the egalitarian approach when it comes to parenting. Whether married or divorced, many have been advocating the co-parenting approach. But to co-parent is never easy and to effectively master this skill, Salem News has some tips for moms and dads out there.

Parenting is perhaps one of the most vital professions a person will ever have to do. But sometimes, it could also stressful but the feeling of joy and contentment for bringing and raising another life into this world is simply immeasurable.
