Bugaboo Strollers Recalled by U.S. Authorities to Avoid Fall and Choking Risks

Thousands of units of a stroller manufactured by Bugaboo have been recalled in the United States after authorities found that the product poses fall and choking risks to babies.

Nearly 46,300 units of the "Cameleon" and "Donkey" models of Bugaboo strollers in the U.S. and more than 4,000 units in Canada have been affected by the recall notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The Bugaboo Cameleon stroller that was out in September 2012 has not been affected by the current recall.

According to the authorities, a button provided on the carry handles of the stroller can unlock unexpectedly while using the stroller, making the children fall or putting them at higher risks of choking. Authorities have received 58 complaints where the carry handles got disconnected suddenly.

The recalled strollers were available at different baby product stores across the nation, including Buy Buy Baby, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Toys R Us and online stores of Bugaboo.

The strollers are manufactured by Bugaboo International B.V., based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and imported by Bugaboo Americans based in California.

The Commission urged consumers to remove the carry handle of the recalled strollers and approach the company to receive a free replacement handle.

Information about the model numbers included in the recall can be drawn from the official website of Bugaboo.

According to the information provided by the company, the new carry handle will be available from February 2013.

"In response to customer reports, we are proactively reaching out to provide a new and improved carry handle for the Bugaboo Cameleon and Bugaboo Donkey. This Bugaboo quality initiative will ensure customers can use our products to their utmost satisfaction," a statement appearing on the company website said.

Consumers can contact the company directly at (800) 460-2922, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday or online at www.bugaboo.com.
